Final Reflection by Bryan Tam

It's been a hectic holiday. Besides the World Cup and other things, we have been working on our project. I know that this blog has become more of a communications medium this few weeks but at least some work is done. We've completed the product and working on the video and the presentation(powerpoint). Every thing will be finished by the end of next week(2nd of July). Everything that needs to be posted will be posted by 30th June. So,we hope that everything will go fine and we can finish the blog by then.

Errors for board game

As you all know the board game , has 2 circles, if the circumference of the circlee is 50 , it will be too big , so i decided to make it to 29.5 ~30 cm .

Progress of the Board Game

This is the progress for the board game , basically , i have finish the board game , but the design for it is not done .
- : put in charge of finishing the board game
Bryan Tam : Research and finishing of materials needed for the booth .
Jun Kai : FInishing the worksheets up and video

Notice / Reminder : remember to come to my house , meet at - MRT 9AM Date : 07/06/10

Dimensions of Question Box

Should be about 10 cm by 6cm. There should be 2 of them

Dimensions

I went back to read the specs I posted earlier and I did not specify the dimensions. Apologise for the comment made earlier on the post by -. Anyways go ahead with the dimensions you posted earlier. I think it is 50 by 50 a circle and is a total of 50 by 100 long.

IPW at -'s House

So far , ppl who confirm that htey are going are :
Tan Jun Kai

Not confirm :
Bryan Tam----- unable to contact him or he purposely dun want to reply , most likely he is oblivious .

Confirm not going :
Amos

This is a notice to all those who still want to come to my house tmr , 2/06/10
Those who want to come , meet at - , 9 am sharp .
Bryan , we need you , the dimensions of the question box and question is vital for the board game .

To all

Need all your numbers , especially Bryan Tam , pls gib me all ur numbers asap !!!

here is a picture of a 'unique' dice we can use

scrpit for the previous podcast

1st person: wow it has been quite hot lately!

2nd person: yup , well it is because of global warming

1st person: what is global warming

2nd person : An increase in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere especially a sustained increase that causes climatic changes The greenhouse effect acts to warm the plant and increase average global temperatures. This is seen as a major environmental hazard as average temperatures rise, leading to a possible change in weather patterns and agricultural output.

1st person :does the burning of fossil fuels affect the climate change too?

2nd person:yes you are right,it will also cause the greenhouse effect.

1st person : what is a greenhouse effect?

2nd person: some of the infrared radiation passes through the atmosphere but most is absorbed and re-emitted in all directions by greenhouse gas molecules and clouds. the effect of this is to warm the earth’s surface and the lower atmosphere

1st person: but fossil fuels have advantages too such as being very easy to find When coal is used in power plants, they are very cost effective. Coal is also in abundant supply Power stations that make use of fossil fuel can be constructed in almost any location.

2nd person: but there are also disadvantages in fossil fuels too Pollution is a major disadvantage of fossil fuels. This is because they give off carbon dioxide when burned thereby causing a greenhouse effect. This is also the main contributory factor to the global warming experienced by the earth .

1st person : how about the energy from the wind

2nd person : wind energy is a useful form of energy such as using windturbine to produce electricity. one of the greatest advantage of Wind Energy is that it is ample. Secondly, wind energy is renewable. Some other advantages of Wind Energy are that it is widely distributed, cheap, and also reducing toxic gas emissions. Wind Energy is also advantageous over traditional methods of creating energy, in the sense that it is getting cheaper and cheaper to produce wind energy. but the disadvantages is that Large land is needed people must clear lands to built the wind turbines so not all countries can use it .

1st person: well i prefer hydroelectricity as Inexhaustible fuel source

Minimal environmental impact but smaller models depends on availability of fast flowing streams or rivers

2nd person:well i prefer solar energy

1st person : why?

2nd person : Energy from the sun that is converted into thermal or electrical energy therefore it Greatly reduced pollution reduce, contribution to global warming and it also has Infinite energy resource.

1st person : It is available most abundantly in areas with a high number of sunshine hours. Where it is needed most, cold countries in high northern or southern latitudes, it is less easily captured and used.It is not directly available at night or under cloud cover and conversion into another form of energy storage systems are necessary for those times.

RRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1nd person: recess is over , how fast ! anyway , thanks for the knowledge you have given me

2st person : no thanks

i will be uploading the script for the previous podcast with the two man talking to each other first

design specs

Design specs
The board must have 2 circles
It must have spaces surrounding the middle of the circle.
The spaces must have the name of a place in Copenhagen , the name of a place where people work(eg. Supermarket, recording studio) or a place(name these with fictious names) which can be used for building energy plants(eg. Flats, forests, oil ridge, cattle ranch, beach)
There must be exactly 10 aound each circle, four will meet at the middle
In the middle of the circle, there must be an area which is split into solar, wind, water, fossil fuels and public buildings, for a total of 5 parts.
About 1 quarter will be used for public buildings. The rest will be spread evenly
Important places in Copenhagen(exception of difficult to model ones) should have models on the board at their respective spaces.
There will be two designated spaces to put the General Questions and another for Energy Questions and are to be labelled respectively.
The two spaces will be in the center and will occupy two of the four spaces which merge in the center.
The board must be colourful and must contain red and white(Danish flag style) and/or other colours

Sample of the questions to be included in the game

I have been working on the questions. These are just samples. The blue lines represent where the paper will be cut. Those ones on the left are on the front while those on the right are meant to be at the back of the card. I have added a note of which topic they belong to at the bottom with a short form. GW: Global Warming and HN: Hopenhagen. I'm still working on formulating more questions.

Here's the link and please download the GRACE sample questions file.

We have been considering...

We have thought of making the board game into a computer game. I don't support this idea. The others I think do. Where's the fun in a computer game. The goal of enhancing communication will be gone. I wonder...

New update

I have been developing my board game further. It will be played in a unique way. My board game's audience is basically anyone 10 and up. It involves the skills of: Entrepreneurship, Teamwork, Accurate Calculations and Budget Management. More details coming soon.

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Our product

We have come to a conclusion that using renewable energy is too ambitious. We are still on the topic of clean green energy. We are now developing a board game. It would be on clean energy. More details coming soon.

Reflection #3

Not quite much time here , so this post would be short or reflection . The solar panel is qutie a big and complex idea and is quite difficult to do and our group should try a more simple subject that does not require so much time , so we can juggle well with our time .

Lesson #3

We have thought about our solar panel device charger.
We have been cancelling each other out with our ideas, so not much progress. We will be doing more brainstorming in the next few coming days.

Refelction #2

Working with people isn't easy. Its espacially so if your members don't do their work. I think you should be able to see my headache now...

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Reflection #1 by Bryan Tam

I found out that if work is not done before the next lesson, things would not go smoothly and we would not be able to advance. So, I've done some research already. Actually, I believe that my group members are able to do well just that we're off to a slow start. Hopefully, we can finish this project well.

Things to do from 18 Jan. to next lesson

1) Research on rechargeble batteries.
  • How they work
2) Research on battery chargers.
  • How they work
  • Possible ways to attach solar panels to it
3)Research on solar panels
  • How they work
  • Cost
  • Ways to prevent it from being damaged without stopping it from working at 100%
  • How to conceal the solar panels so that it is hard to find

Second lesson

Guys,
After this second lesson, we are to:
  1. Think of a final product
  2. Think of group name
  3. Do your reflections
  4. Get organised and ready for what is to come
  5. Download the lesson package if you haven't
That would be all for now,
Bryan

Monday, January 11, 2010

Lesson 2

This is what we need to do for Lesson 2 (before and after too):
(1) Brainstorm on project topics
(2) Select the best topic
(3) Discuss the topic
(a) Clarify the focus of the project
(b) Decide on the subjects for research
(c) Plan on what you need
